Abstract

Simile is used when comparing two unlike things that is often introduce by the words like or as. There are many sentences that used similes in Harry Potter and Soccerer’s stone novel by JK Rowling. A writer uses similes to enable the readers to imagine in their mind what the writer is saying. The purpose of this research is to find out the most dominant types and meanings of simile that found in Harry Potter and Soccerer’s stone novel. Based on the result of the anal ysis; first, the writer found 6 similes in the first four chapters. Second the writer found 50% are open similes
and 50% are close similes by its type. The meaning results show that 50% are explicit similes. Therefore, 50% are implicit similes
