COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT IN CIJOGED VILLAGE THROUGH THE UTILIZATION OF PINEAPPLE LEAF WASTE AS LOCAL RAW MATERIAL FOR INNOVATIVE HANDICRAFT PRODUCTS

Abstract

Cijoged Village, located in Subang Regency, is one of the areas that generates a considerable amount of pineapple leaf waste during each harvest season. However, this agricultural waste has not been optimally utilized by the local community and therefore has not provided significant economic value. The Community Service Program (PkM) through the Program Inovasi Seni Nusantara (PISN) was designed to enhance community knowledge and skills in processing pineapple leaf waste into handicraft products with high economic value while encouraging the development of local potential-based enterprises. The initial stage of the program included field observations, community outreach, educational sessions, packaging training, and the provision of a decorticator machine. The activity was conducted over one day and involved approximately 30 participants. The results indicated that participants gained a better understanding of the potential of pineapple leaf waste as a primary raw material for handicraft production, as well as the importance of product innovation and packaging in increasing market value. Throughout the activity, participants demonstrated strong enthusiasm for participating in subsequent training and implementation stages. This program is expected to serve as an initial step in encouraging communities to utilize pineapple leaf waste more effectively, create value-added products, reduce agricultural waste, and improve the local economy in a sustainable manner.
