EFEKTIVITAS KOMUNIKASI ANTARBUDAYA (KASUS MANAJEMEN KONFLIK ANTARA SUKU SUNDA DAN SUKU MADURA DI KELURAHAN KEBON KELAPA-BOGOR)

Abstract

One of the impacts from the success of transportation infrastructure development perceived by Indonesian people is cultural contact. Now days, intercultural contact tends to bring intercultural conflicts, One of the most severe ethnic conflicts is Dayak and the Madurese conflict in Kalimantan likewise with intercultural contact between Sundanese and Maduranese. Yet, cultural contact between Sundanese Maduranese in Kebon Kelapa, Bogor City showed a harmonious living between each other. Therefore, the main research question is what the communication strategies utilized by the Madurese and the Sundanese in resolving conflicts? Identity Negotiation Theory, Hall’s cultural dimensions, and intercultural conflict management styles serve as the theoretical foundations for this research. Ting-Toomey argues that intercultural conflict can be overcome by creating effective communication between individuals in different cultures. Effectiveness of intercultural communication itself can be reached if there are mutual understanding, mutual respect, and mutual support between communication participants. In the case of intercultural communication in Kebon Kelapa Village, mutual understanding, mutual respect and mutual support which are formed through interplay from etnik identity, religion identity and relation identity
